What Does “Liturgy” Mean in the Bible?
The official prayer of the whole Church, above all the Mass and the sacraments. It means “work of the people.”
It can mean
- “Liturgy of the Word”: the part of the Mass when the readings are read.
- “Liturgy of the Eucharist”: the part when the bread and wine are offered and we receive Communion.
- Everyone’s: it is not celebrated by the priest alone: the whole assembly takes part, each in his own role.
Where it appears in the Bible
Acts 13:2; Acts 2:42
