What Does “Creed” Mean in the Bible?
The prayer that sums up what we Catholics believe. It has this name because it begins with the word “I believe” (in Latin, “Credo”).
It can mean
- The Apostles’ Creed: the shorter one. It is the ancient baptismal creed of the Church of Rome.
- The Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed: the longer one. It comes from the first two councils, in the years 325 and 381.
- Another name: it is also called the “Symbol of faith.”
Today
On Sundays and solemnities it is prayed at Mass, after the homily.
Where it appears in the Bible
Matthew 28:19; Acts 8:37
