What was the relationship between Shem and Abraham?

Abraham descends from Shem. Genesis gives that line from father to son, from Shem to Abraham. Genesis 11:10-26

What the Bible says

Genesis 11:10

These are the generations of Sem: Sem was a hundred years old when he begot Arphaxad, two years after the flood.

Genesis 11:26

And Thare lived seventy years, and begot Abram, and Nachor, and Aran.
