What was the relationship between Jonah and Jesus?
Jesus spoke of the sign of Jonah. Just as Jonah was three days in the fish, the Son of Man would be three days in the earth. Matthew 12:39-41; Luke 11:29-30
What the Bible says
Jonah 2:1
Now the Lord prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonas: and Jonas was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
Matthew 12:40
For as Jonas was in the whale’s belly three days and three nights: so shall the Son of man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.

What the Church teaches
The Catechism says that Jesus spoke of his Resurrection as the “sign of Jonah.”
