The Stations of the Cross, with the Bible

The Way of the Cross

It is the way of the cross: we walk through fourteen moments of the Passion of Jesus. This is the biblical form, the one the Pope prays at the Colosseum; the older form adds Jesus’ three falls, Veronica, and the meeting with his Mother, which come from Tradition.

At each station:
We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
Because by your holy Cross you have redeemed the world.

1. Jesus is in Agony in the Garden of Olives (Mk 14:32-36)
2. Jesus is Betrayed by Judas and Arrested (Mk 14:43, 45-46)
3. Jesus is Condemned by the Sanhedrin (Mk 14:55, 60-62, 64)
4. Peter Denies Jesus (Mk 14:72)
5. Jesus is Judged by Pilate (Mk 15:14-15)
6. Jesus is Scourged and Crowned with Thorns (Mk 15:17-19)
7. Jesus Carries the Cross (Mk 15:20)
8. Simon of Cyrene Helps Jesus to Carry the Cross (Mk 15:21)
9. Jesus Meets the Women of Jerusalem (Lk 23:27-28, 31)
10. Jesus Is Crucified (Mk 15:24)
11. Jesus Promises the Kingdom to the Good Thief (Lk 23:39-43)
12. Jesus on the Cross, his Mother and his Disciple (Jn 19:26-27)
13. Jesus Dies on the Cross (Mk 15:34, 36-37)
14. Jesus Is Laid in the Tomb (Mk 15:46)

At the end:
Holy and merciful Father, grant that we may walk with faith and love along the way of the Cross. As we share in Christ's passion, may we come at last with him to the glory of your Kingdom.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
