The spring of Gihon
A place in the Bible
A spring in Jerusalem, next to the City of David.
What happened here
- Solomon is made king: the priest Zadok took the holy oil from the Lord’s tent and anointed Solomon king at Gihon. All the people shouted, “Long live King Solomon!”
- Hezekiah’s tunnel: King Hezekiah blocked the outlet of the spring of Gihon and brought the water through a channel underground to the west side of the City of David.
Today
It is the Gihon Spring, in Jerusalem.
Where it appears in the Bible
1 Kings 1:45; 1 Kings 1:39; 2 Chronicles 32:30
What the Bible says
1 Kings 1:45
And Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon: and they are gone up from thence rejoicing, so that the city rang again: this is the noise that you have heard.
1 Kings 1:39
And Sadoc the priest took a horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon: and they sounded the trumpet, and all the people said: God save king Solomon.

This same Ezechias was, he that stopped the upper source of the waters of Gihon, and turned them away underneath toward the west of the city of David: in ail his works he did prosperously what he would.
