Milan
A place in the history of the Church
A great city of northern Italy. In St. Augustine’s time, its bishop was St. Ambrose.
What happened here
- The Edict of Milan: in the year 313, the emperors Constantine and Licinius gave Christians, and everyone, the freedom to practice their religion.
- St. Augustine: in Milan he listened to the sermons of St. Ambrose. There, one day, he read a page of St. Paul, and it changed his life. St. Ambrose baptized him at the Easter Vigil in the year 387.
- St. Monica: she was with her son in Milan, and she obeyed Bishop Ambrose.
Today
It is one of the largest cities in Italy.
