Jerusalem

A place in the Bible

Jerusalem

The holy city of the Jewish people, where the Temple stood. There Jesus died and rose again.

What happened here

  1. Jesus as a boy: every year Mary and Joseph went up to Jerusalem for Passover. When he was twelve, Jesus stayed behind in the Temple.
  2. Holy Week: Jesus entered Jerusalem and went to the Temple. There he died on the cross and rose again.
  3. The Church: after the Ascension, the disciples went back to Jerusalem with great joy. There they received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

Today

It is still a holy city for Jews, Christians, and Muslims.

Where it appears in the Bible

Luke 2:41; Luke 2:43; Mark 11:11; Luke 24:52; Acts 2:5; Mark 1:5; Luke 2:22
